FAQ

How do I know if I need my air ducts cleaned?

Every home requires air duct cleaning at some point. We are the duct cleaner of choice to many of the major new home builders in the South florida area. Over the years we've cleaned thousands of homes in Homes in the Tri-County area.

What could possibly be in my air ducts?

What could be in your air ducts is the same things that are in your vacuum cleaner bag. Picture a full vacuum cleaner bag. This bag may contain any or all of the following debris: carpet fibers, skin scale and hair, dust mites and their feces, food crumbs, pet food and cat liter, mold and mildew, drywall dust and new construction debris, insect and rodent excrements and remains, bacteria and viruses, pet hair and dander. Now picture 2-4 grocery bags full of this same material. This is an accurate picture of how much debris vacuums out of an average sized home's air duct system. Then consider that a standard fiberglass filter is less than 7% effective at stopping this debris from eventually breaking down, passing through your filter, and back into the air you and your family breathes.

What preparations need to be made?

Make sure the service provider has clear access to all duct openings and heating and air conditioning equipment.

How is it done?

We at Just Clean By Lou use state of the art vacuum equipment and compressed air. Our technician clean each air vent with 250 psi of compressed air, starting on the top floor and working our way back down to the basement. This blows all the dirt from the air vents into the main ductwork. From there, we use air-snakes and air-whips to clean the main ductwork. The vacuum draws all of the dirt out to our truck. The procedure is repeated to clean the return air ductwork. All air-handling components are cleaned using compressed air.

How often should this be done?

While it is true the EPA doesn't have any recomendations on how often you should have your duct clean. A reputable company will help you decide how often, based on your families health concerns, environment, pet dander, remodeling projects and personal preference. We recommend this be done every 1- 2 years in most cases. We have many customers who have us back annually, and some every two years. If any member of your home suffers from asthma or allergies to dust then we recommend that you have your ducts cleaned more frequently. If you've recently completed renovations or are moving into a new home, then air duct cleaning is a must.
